Mary Dale (Hass) Golden, age 87, of Kirby, went to her heavenly home at 1:10 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2026, in the “Nightingale at Glenwood Nursing Home,” Glenwood, Arkansas.
Mary was born on April 25, 1938, in Farmersville, Texas, and was the daughter of her parents, Clayton Powell Hass and Winnie Hass who she loved and adored. She attended public schools in Collin County, Texas through grade school and junior high school. Her farming family relocated to Rains County in 1951 and settled outside Emory, Texas. She graduated from Emory High School in 1955, where she was voted “Most Friendly” by her peers. Upon graduation, she moved to Garland, Texas, where she worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator.
Mary was united in holy matrimony with Homer L. Golden, a Weights and Balance Specialist with Braniff Airlines, of Kirby, Arkansas, in a civil ceremony on April 20, 1957, in Garland, Texas. Homer’s employer required subsequent relocation to Fort Smith, Arkansas, Nashville, Tennessee, and Garland, Texas, before their final relocation to Kirby, Arkansas, in 1978. Mary was the loving mother of Tim and Kevin Golden, both currently residing in Kirby, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Winnie Hass, her husband Homer Golden, three brothers: Alfred, Richard and Travis, and one sister: Ladois Bean. She is survived by another sister, Judy Pruden, in Yantis, Texas. Mary attributed her fiery demeanor and loquacious personality to the rigors and dynamics of a large farming family. She was an advocate for the poor and dispossessed throughout her life. She told her boys to always read Matthew, and you will know what Jesus requires.
She is survived by her sister Judy Pruden, her two sons: Tim and Kevin Golden; her three grandchildren: Ty Golden of Anchorage, Alaska, Morgan Chase Golden of Enniskillen, Ireland, and Brandt Golden, Sasebo, Japan; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Golden in Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requested for donations to the Bear Creek Cemetery, Kirby, Arkansas.
Mary’s family appreciates and genuinely wishes to thank the incredible Nightingale Nursing Home administrative (Jennifer and Tiffany) and nursing staff (Hannah, Brooke, Sarah and Molly) who graciously and rapidly responded to the requests of two anxious sons day and night. Their level of care reflects great credit upon them and far exceeds industry standards for nursing home care. May God Bless them!
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Bear Creek Cemetery.
