Norman “Dean” Turner, Jr., age 78, of Newhope, passed away on April 28, 2026. He was born in Houston, Texas, on October 24, 1947. He was the eldest son of Norman “Mutt” Turner and Georgia Mae McKinney Turner.

He was a gentle giant. Never intentionally unkind to anyone. He loved hunting and collecting firearms of any kind. Making a good deal made him happy. He loved farming, especially his cattle and tolerated chickens, just to make a living. His favorite thing was corralling the herd he called grandkids!

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; his twin baby sisters; his sister-in-law Carol Pounds; his brother-in-law, Larry Cogburn; and his nephew, Matt Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Reva Turner; his daughters, Kelly (Doak) Dodson and Gayle (Bo) Castleberry; Kelly’s mother, Lana Kennedy Turner; his grandchildren, Blakely (Grady) Tolleson, Kennedy Dodson, Delaney Dodson, Karter Castleberry, Klair (Brady) Manasco, Karlie (Josh) Worley, Kort Castleberry, Jade Turner, Rance Turner, and Matt (Lauren) Turner; his great-grandchildren, Hudson Worley, Holden Worley, and Ellis Tolleson; his sister, Lynn (Tommy) Anderson; his brother, Eddie (Jeannie) Turner; his brothers-in-law, Billy (Teresa) Cogburn, Buddy Cogburn, and Doyle Pounds; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

The visitation was on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel-Glenwood. Funeral Services were held there on Monday, May 4, 2026 with Bro. Brian Pounds officiating.

Pallbearers were Chris Anderson, Jay Pounds, Tanner Bryan, Billy Cogburn, Brady Manasco, and Josh Worley. Honorary Pallbearers were Jimmy Sweeden, Billy Epperson, Bobby Epperson, and Buddy Cogburn.

Interment was held on Dean’s farm at 305 Pappy Turner Rd in Newhope, Arkansas.
