Glenwood Mayor Billy Plyler says he is continuing to recover from a heart attack he suffered Aug. 24.
“I think I’m doing good,” Plyler said in an interview Tuesday, Sept. 8. “I’m just resting right now.”
Plyler, 72, had a cardiac CT scan earlier that day, which creates detailed 3D images of the heart and blood vessels. Such scans can detect blockages, check for heart damage and evaluate how well the heart is functioning. Plyler said he did not yet know when he would meet with his doctor to learn the results.
Plyler had not returned to work at his family’s business, John Plyler Home Center, and was not yet driving. But the mayor said he plans to attend the next Glenwood City Council meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.
After experiencing a shortness of breath for several days, Plyler said he went to his doctor Aug. 24. His doctor suspected he was having a heart attack and had him transported by ambulance to National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Two coronary stents were placed to keep his arteries open, Plyler said. Two days later, he said doctors believed he had suffered very little damage to his heart.
In his most recent interview with The Glenwood Herald, Plyler thanked the community for its continued support of him and his family.
“I appreciate your prayers,” Plyler said. “We seem to be doing good.”
